Have an 89 Iroc TPI, and my fuel gauge does not work most of the time. But recently, it has been showing a correct level and then it would be way off again. (Most of the time, it shows half a tank of gas too much). Has any of you had this problem and what could be wrong with this?

Any ideas?

it happens to all thirdgens at one time or another mine started doing it a couple of months ago. it is the sender in the fuel tank i have heard. but when my tank is full the gauge sits like at 12o'clock on a clock. but when my tanks gets low it moves up and down fast.

Mine does the same thing when it is full it reads right and will not move. But as soon as it hits 3/4 full it starts to move up and down as I drive. It gets worse as the amount of gas gets less and less in the tank.
