need help with electric fan

Ok guys i just bought an 89 RS tha was converted to a 350 carburated engine and the computer was taken out. I have an electric fan but i have to turn it on and off manually. Is there a way to wire the fan so that it will go on and off automatically? I would like it to go on and off automatically but i would also like to be able to turn it on when i want (while waiting in line at the drag strip). is any of this possible or do i have to keep turning it on and off by my self? i heard something about relays or something, but i am only 18 and not very go with electrical stuff, so please explain to me how this is done.
Thanks
Tom

Well Zio, I'm No expert ether but you can buy a fan switch sending unit for the engine that will ground at a serten temp. like 180, 195. run the hot wire straight to the fan, run the ground to the sending unit, which will have a two wire conector, you may have to go to a junk yard to get one, but ground one and hook the other to the ground to your fan, it should come on at what ever temp sending unit you buy, now between the fan ground and the sending unit tie in the grounded switch inside to cut it on and off manually, Hope this will help
