PLEASE HELP....STRANDED!!

The alternator/battery gauge is reading around 8 (should be in te middle around 13)....after driving it will work it's way into the red and then it's curtains...since I'm running off the battery. I'm on the third alternator (all are good) this week and the battery is aok. Please....any suggestion would be greatly appreciated...

Pete,

Well, if both the battery and alternator are confirmed good, and you see less than 12.6 volts (<8 volts and it's basically dead) present with the alternator working, then the alternator is not outputting current to through the system. I'd suspect one of three things:

1. The alternator belt is not tight enough preventing the alternator to spin fast enough.

2. There is a problem with the wiring between the alternator and the battery/electrical system.

3. The "fan" fuse is open (blown). The alternator regulator is enabled through the ignition switch that is connected to this 20 ampere fuse.

Based only on what you stated (that both the alternator and battery were good), if I were a betting man (which I am not), I'd place all my money on #3.
