fuel guage help!

hi
i just bought a 1986 camaro w/ a 1989 Corvette 350 Tpi engine
when i bought it the fuel guage didnt work and i dont know were to start to fix it. if anyone can help plz do
thx

I'd start at the gauge itself. Take the cover plate(s) off and unscrew the retaining screws for the fuel gauge. Pull the gauge straight out. It'll "unplug" from it's socket.

Check the resistance across (if I remember right; it's been a long while since I've had analog gauges) the two terminals. The resistance should be between 0 (empty)-90(full) ohms depending on how much gas is in the tank.

If it looks reasonable, I'd suspect the gauge itself. If it doesn't look reasonable I'd suspect the sender. If it's infinite, I'd suspect the wiring.
