disapearing headlights
ive had a problems with my highbeams since ive had my car... the problem is if i turn on my high beems after about a min. my headlights go out all together! (scary huh?) if i turn my reg headlights back on it's ok again.... i don't understand...
There's a thermal breaker built into the headlight switch. If the current on that circuit exceeds the rating (e.i. high beams in addition to low beams) then the breaker opens until it cools enough to work again. Going back to low beams is usually enough to cool it down.
I'd start with replacing your switch. It may be on it's way out. Age builds resistance; resistance builds heat; heat opens the thermal breaker.
If not, then your bulbs are drawing too much current for one reason or another. If it were me, I'd go ahead and replace all four at the same time.. That way, they're all the same age and brightness and you know the bulbs aren't the culprit altogether.
