Did you ever fix this problem? If so, what was the culprit? I did the exact same thing....hatch motor kept running, and ran down the battery all the time. So I unplugged it, now my brake light fuse keeps blowing, and i have NO brake lights.

Don't know about the brake light, i think must be the fuse. For the noise from the hatch motor it happened to me the same thing, it was the plastic gear with a couple of tooth broken
