My car doesnt start. i pulled one ofmy wires off and hooked another plug up to it and nothing happened when i cranked the motor. there is fuel going through the lines. the cap and rotor are only a few months old and i got another coil off my friends car and that didnt work either. so is there a short in the wiring somewhere? Make sure you have +12v going to the coil and/or the ignition module in the dist. could have cooked.

Hi
There are two wires in a connector that plugs into the distributor body. One of them is the electric supply from the ignition switch, the other drives the tacho. Disconnect the plug from the distributer, and use a voltmeter to see if you are getting 12 v when you turn on the ignition.
The dustributer tells you in very small writing which is the power and which is the tacho connection.
If you are not getting power, check the fuse, if that is ok but still no juice, run temporary feed through a fuse from the battery to the distributer - hot wire, and see if it fires up. If it does, you need to fix the supply.
If you do have power going in, and no spark comng out, it could be anything in the distributor from the module to the rotor cap. You can check all the parts with an ohm meter, which is cheaper than buying new parts until it works. The checks are shown in the manual, there are quite a few.
But first do the check to see if power is reaching the distributer. You might be able to reach the supply just by removing the distributer cap, but I'm not certain. There should be 12V in there somewhere with the ignition on.
Good luck.
