Power release solenoid?
Power release solenoid?
Hello everyone. : )
I recently installed a power hatch release switch on my 87 firebird, I bought a relay sensor and installed it under the passenger side dash. I was hoping it would work by releasing my hatch but nothing happens. I have a power pull down motor that works fine but I think I'm missing something. I've heard of a power release solenoid but I'm not sure if it is all ready installed
or if I need to find one and install it myself for the power hatch to work. If this is the case I was hoping someone might have a spare that they would be willing to donate for postage. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Which power pull down hatch motor assy do you have? Attached are pic's of the solenoid equipped style and non-sloenoid style. The silver item is the release solenoid. If not you will need to either add it or swap assy's. Also I've discovered that on auto equipped cars the ground wire (black with a white stripe) ties into the neutral safety switch on the gear selector. On manual equipped cars it connects to the parking brake. In both cases it was to keep you from popping the hatch accidentally while moving.
Click on the link for the pic's of each version. BTW, I also make the replacement plastic guides in case you need them. Good luck, Lon.
