Heat Soak?

ok check it my car had starter problems from the get go, no click no nothin, just acted like there was no signal , i figured it to be a bad solenoid bad starter in general, so i got a new(remanufactured) one from Pacific Auto Wholesale, does the same ****, but its only when the cars hot, it always starts cold, so, its heat soak right? so do i buy a new premium name brand starter, or keep mine and try a heat shield first?
Im just sick of push starting the mutherfugger...
help anyone, im not too mechanicly saavy so be gentle.

My Z-28 has had the same problem and ts an automatic, I tried premium starters and heat shields nothing worked and I got sick of burning my arm every time I had to jump the solenoid, but I came up with a cheap solution that works great and it is not to hard to do, here it is..
1. thesmall terminal next to the big one on the starter is the one that acuates your solenoid, Run a small wire from that terminal to under your dash,
2. get a small pushbuton switch and conect the wire to it, then run the oter side ofthe switch to a batt. slot in your fuse box
when you push the button the engine will crank, it will crank with the key off but will only start with the key on,, and if you want youcan also run a second wire off the small terminal n the sterter to up near your battery, and when you touch it to the psitive terminal you can crank the motor, it makes it easir to work on your car when you dont have a helper to turn the key for you.
oh yea, if I remember correctly there are 2 small terminals on the starter, it is the one that has other wires on it. I have used this method for 2 years with no problems,,,, Hope I helped, *** luck

This is happening more frequently these days, I hear from many people the same thing. Firsthand, it was my neighbors vette. After 3 chain store starters he suffered the same problem. It turned out to be crappy solenoid components in the rebuilds. The plunger was binding when hot. Rule out anything else(batt, connections etc.)and then get an AC-Delco reman. With all due respect the previous reply made no sense at all. He ran an extra wire from 12 volts to the coil of the solenoid. If it worked for him his problem was not heat related. Heat soak generally occurs with older starters when the internal lubricant collects grit and dries out. Many times one can disassemble the starter, clean it and relube and it will work fine. Assuming you have not modified the exhaust in such a way as to generate more heat closer to the starter a properly remanufactured starter should not suffer this problem. Many reman components are coming from offshore parts suppliers and have real quality issues. Heat shields are a benefit as they keep the starter cooler hence prolonging it's service life. It is not a cure for one that needs service. Be very careful with aftermarket parts these days, the quality control is just not there with bargain units.
