headlights and other accessories out

This morning when i was going to work, my headlights and radio cut in a out several times. I also noticed my volotage dropping when the car was at idle. I was worried all day that my car wouldn't start thinking it was the alternator. well after working an 8 nhr day my car started right up and I drove to Discount auto to have my alternator tested. The alt tested fine and so did my battery. But now I have no headlights, radio, dome light, or power door locks. But I do have taillights, turn signals, power windows and my car starts fine. When I started and ran the car this afternoon the voltage wasn't dropping but a few tenths of a volt. I checked all the fuses i could find in the engine well and in the fuse box, I also checked the connections to the alternator. Any ideas before i shell out 70+ bucks to a mechanic???

thanks guys

sounds like a short circuit to me, best thing i can think of to do is grab yourself a couple hours free time and trace the wiring.

check your feed power to the fuse block. i think you will find that all those circuts are interconected on the fuse block and that they all share part of one of the feed lines that has a fusable link on it. look for a bad fusable link on that feed line and check your grounds.

thats my .02 cents

Hmm..im not sure if the headlights are on the same circuit as the radio and all...I would assume not. But IF by some chance they are, check your lighter. I know if its shorting you will lose radio, interior lights, and power locks...maybe more. Make sure there is no change down in the socket (just happened to me the other day), and make sure its not really cruddy looking in there. Just a suggestion before you start really gettin into the wires.

what @ZZ is talking about is the wire from the starter powers both the headlight switch and the ACC fuse. One wire runs to the bulkhead and on the inside the wire splits and runs to the source accordingly. If the link at the starter is going bad or the terminal is loose, both the headlights and anything on the ACC circuit will cut out at the same time.
