Help me out!Remote Start Problem.

I just had the Autopage RS-750LCD alarm installed in my 1991 Camaro about a week ago.The guy that installed it said that he was not going to be able to activate the remote start feature because of the factory alarm and that it wouldnt work because of that little chip on the ignition key.Now im supposed to buy a bypass module that a spare key is supposed to go inside of it for it to work.Is this true?Does anybody have the remote start in their chevy?Did you have to do this procedure for it to work?

yes its true. the system is called VATS and it wont let the car start unless it sees the proper key in the ignition but there are ways to disable the entire system.

All you have to do is bypass the vats system with a resistor the same value of the resistor pellet on your ignition key.And the factory alarm can be disabled as soon as the remote start feature is activated.The installer that did the work apparently doesn't know enough about security systems to even be installing one. Some Ford,Chrysler and other import vehicles have an immobilizer that you need a seperate bypass module for.But GM uses a simpler,yet still effective system(VATS and Passlock I & II), that can easily be bypassed once you learn the resistor value on the key. I would take the car back and try for a refund if they don't install the system properly and go somewhere else that knows what they are doing. If the installer didn't know that bit of information that I just gave you,then I wouldn't even trust what he already has put installed into your vehicle.
Oh,and don't let them fool you into buying a bypass module for your car.All you need is a resistor that shouldn't even cost you over a quarter.
