Elect. problems, hard to start

Well I think I have a short or something.

A few days ago I tried to start the car and when the key went to the start position the power went near dead, the lights all went out and the car of course did not start. Then I go to front of the car and grab a plastic cover that holds the wires that go to the starter and then all the lights come back bight and I go back to start the car and the same problem continues. But if my dads pulls on the wires while I try to start the car, it does start.

Today I went out to start the car and this time it just clicked when I tried to start it. Batt was fully charged, but this time the lights stayed on bright. But pull the wires taunt and then it turns over fine.
The wires are on the starter tight and the pos terminal is a little worn.
Any idea what this would be? Any ideas would be appreciated.

Chris

maybe there is a break in the wires them selves somewhere you should to a voltage drop across them and I would also really look over your connections.
