Odd Voltage Dropping

My blinkers slow down and my lights dim when I sit at a light. My voltage will also drop as well (very low). When I rev the engine the lights become brighter, and the voltage raises, but the voltage drops again when the engine idle decreases.
The above problem was posted by somebody else here, but his problems are just like mine and then some....

The funny thing is that the problem is totally sporadic. Sometimes it’ll be ok, and sometimes it won’t. I’ve been watching for months thinking it was the weather perhaps that affects the setup and I’m still not sure. The battery is also just a few months old.

The worse is when I’m at a stoplight and I press the brakes. The voltage will totally sink, but never enough to actually kill the car (which has never happened from this problem).

Again, it seems the problem gets worse when I’m putting more straight on the cars electrical system with the headlights, stereo, etc. Of course I’ve tried with the stereo off, but still no luck.

It just seems something is odd and I can’t pinpoint it. If it helps, I can hear the engine idle differently when the voltage drops too.

My alternator is brand new and I got it checked to be safe. I also have a brand new Die Hard Gold series battery.

EDIT: The tach needle also deflects along with the hopping voltage needle.

Hey, George. I have a 200amp alternator and a brand new battery, and i get the same thing at idle. If you read most tech sites, most say that full amperage only occures at 1000 rpms and up.

I unfortunately attribute to this as being normal, especially when you do alot of add ons, such as a nice pounding stereo system.

Do you have underdrive pullies?

Hey Omar... The thing that kills me is when I first got the car, I never had this problem. This just happened as of late last year/early this year and has just gotten worse. This is with new alternators(yes, I exchanged brand new, not reman. alternators to make sure) and swapped batteries two or three times to make sure. What drives me nuts is the problem is sporadic, but happens alot.
