Instrument lights
Instrument lights
Oh man I screwed up harsh
I was installing a better delco tapedeck in my 83 firebird with an 87 drivetrain.
not being carefull I shorted out The orange wire. I heard A pop from the fuse panel. also I may have hooked up the grey dimmer wire to the wrong spot.
I goto change the fuse (gauges) and find a good 20amp fuse sitting in there
The symptoms:
with the dimmer switch in the fully on position. park lights on
1. The radio works
2. Guages works
3. Guage lights work
4. inside signal light are clear and flash
5. when flicked there the injector area makes noise.
6. all exterior lights work
7. courtesy lights on
8. pw/pl work
with the dimmer in a dim position.
1. radio led goes off, but lettering still lighted.
2. guage lights no workie, both turn signal light up and dim with the dimmer. Turn signal get brighter if lever depressed.
3. all other exterior lights work
4 PW/PL work
5. the warning beep sounds wierd, slow pitch, slow frequency.
6. guages do not work
coinsidentally since I dummied up the radio to work while i work in the garage the car would start but stall immediatly. I feel this has something to do with the engine noises when you turn the interior on.
I have the fuse panel pulled, but grounded now, the adl thing off.
when installing the harness there was this by pass at the 5/10min relay (still unsure what it does. I installed a good? one. a red wire that goes from the engine bay to behind the fuse panel (turns orange somewhere). It does seem to have power at fuse panel any more, but if I supply 12v there, nothing changes.
This condition is similar to happens without that red engine wire connected to the power dist node.
I'll do some more testing and post some more info. But for now.. any ideas?
I'm in way over my head with this electrical stuff.

ok I pulled that heatsink with the power transistors. taking it off really changed how it acted, the turn signals faded but were still lit dimmly
how do test it and/or fix it?
