gta digital dash swap to 85ta..help!

i'm planning on swapping a gta digital dash into my 85 ta
it has a 305tpi and 3spd auto

if i do the swap, will i also need the ecm from the gta? and if i do, does that mean i have to convert from maf to tps?

thanks!!

In your sig it says LT1. Does that mean LT1 intake?? Since you say you have an 85 TPI, I'll assume we are talking about a stock 85 T/A. If that is the case, you already have BOTH MAF & TPS. You probably meant SD (speed density) not TPS (MAF = Mass Air Flow meter... TPS = Throttle Position Sensor). The answer is no on the ecm and the swapover question since the digital dash was only offered for 87 & 88, which were both MAF. The next thing you should know is that 87 & 88 GTAs had a 700R4 with an electric speedo, you have a cable driven speedo. Now on to the biggest question of all, why in the f*ck would you want that g*dd*mned digital dash??? Sure it looks cool, if it works, but since the trip computer part is a big ol assed piece of $hit, and never works right I just don't see the point of going thru that conversion just to have a pantload of problems down the road. Add to that it was only a 2 year piece, and can you say cha-ching when you need another one, and another one after that. Those are getting tough to find in boneyards, and those that have them know what they're worth. I have that friggin' digital dash in my GTA, and I am going to change it out for some autometer gauges in a custom housing this winter. My trip computer (also where the odometer is located) doesn't light up any more so reading it is a bitch. Sorry bout the rant, but that is the one part that is killing me on my car. If you do decide to go ahead with this conversion, get the wiring harness, cluster, and vss (speedo drive) from the donor car, then all you need to do is get a wiring diagram, a case of beer, and a weekend with nothing better to do and you'll be reading digital numbers (and cussing when you can't read 'em) in no time.

Don't take my previous response as bashing you. I like the digital dash in my car, it just won't stay working right. They look great at night and it's pretty cool to be able to switch from metric to english units, but they are a pain in the butt. The other day my kid about $hit when he looked over and saw 130 in the speedo. He even told my wife I went 130 with him in the car (that's a big no-no) and I had to show her what he was talking about. I also wasn't flaming you for the LT1 thing or the TPS thing, there are folks on here who don't know what the hell they have. I just wanted to give you the best, most complete answer I could. If you have your heart set on digital dash, go for it. I just wanted to caution you before you undertake this that there COULD be draw backs. Good luck.

no bash taken. i'm on so many boards, that when my setup changes it's hard to remember what i need to change.
my lt1 car is no more, sadly.

i'm pretty dead set on a digital setup of some sorts, i just don't know what. i'm rather good with electronics and circuit repairs, so i may try the swap, although i do anticipate a problem with getting my th350 to work...i'm gonna need a sending unit of some sorts, but that's all small stuff details.
i like the way the gta dash is setup...i like the factory look. i'm just weighing costs of other setups and the likes.
reliability is a concern, but not a big one because the car is going to be a track/show car, so it won't be driven on the streets more than once or twice a week for a few hours at a time.
