delay wipers won't delay
Ok, I've got an 87 with delay wipers. I've read a number of posts saying that the delay is controlled in the plastic cover in the front of the motor. My wipers work on low, and high perfectly. On the delay setting it just doesn't delay. And I live in the pacific northwest, so good working wipers are a must here. I've replaced the motor with a good working motor and cover off another car that the delay wipers worked great in, (tested this myself on the car I pulled it the motor from) but when I put the motor on my 87, same thing. No delay.
Could it possibly be the wiper switch itself causing this problem?
Thanks
Dan

Are four big components to the wiper motor system
motor itself is good if the wipers work on high and low
delay control board is good since it was tested previously
wiper switch condition is unknown
wiring that connects the switch to the motor condition is unknown
If you've got a spare wiper switch around, you could remove the trim panel at the bottom of the steering column and plug it in to see if all works as it should. If you locate a wiring diagram, you could use an ohm meter to check the condition of the wiring in between the switch and the motor.

does the washer pump work?
I know this sounds crazy, but the washer pump on my 84Z died, when that happened the delay wippers also stopped working.
As soon as I replaced the pump, the delays started working again.
So try replacing the washer pump. It's only about 15 bucks, and is easy to install.

Well this is an old thread, but I just finally got the problem of the wipers not delaying fixed, and thought the information on the cure might be helpfull to someone.
It was the wiper switch that caused the wipers to not delay. I tried several different wiper motors, and they all did the same thing. I was up at a wrecking yard and was getting some stuff off a 91 GTA that was a stolen recovery and the wiper switch was exposed where they had broken the column out to steal the car. The switch is a rotary style deep in the column. To replace it you have to remove the steering wheel, and turn signal switch. Along with the top part of the steering column. It's not too bad of a job, but it takes time and patience. Lots of small parts to keep track of.
Considering how much work was involved in replacing the switch, I elected to go with a new one. Locally from GM they are $127. And from Dal and Van Der Ver (spelling) it was $75 plus $5 shipping. Auto zone wanted $105.
Hope this helps someone else out with a simular problem.
Part number for my 87 with tilt, is 7843683, switch asm.
