Blown coils
Blown coils
I am going through a distributor coil evey couple months or so. One day my car just won't start. It's an 84 z28 with the lg4 305.
Anyhow, as soon as I put in a new coil, it fires up and runs for a few months but then it dies again. I put in the Hypertech coil the last time and it went the longest. Before that I had in the accel super coils and they didn't last very long. What could cause a coil cumulative damage and then just kill it??

Heat and bad grounds. Check the connections. If the coil works well, you more than likely have good to ok grounds, but chek and clean them anyway. The HEI coils are notorious for heating up and frying them selves. If you neglected to use silicone heat insolation gel on the rubber busing between the coil and the cap & rotor, you will fry the coil in a very short peroid of time. Also, the Accel coils should have a warranty, ask at the store you purchased it from. CKS auto part stores (Shucks/Kreagen/Cheker) all have maditory 90 day warranties on all products sold unless otherwise posted. Check it out.
