Does anyone know what I have to do to change my large cap HEI to a remote coil small cap? Thanks

IMO You have a few options
1) Buy an MSD or Accel HEI external coil conversion kit. That will take care of divorcing the coil from the distributor BUT the cap diameter does not change.
2) Find an old (Pre 1974 stock GM) points distributor and convert it to electronic and hook up an external coil. It's a small diameter cap.
3) Buy an expensive MSD or equivalent complete distributor assembly.
4) Assuming that you do not have a TPI motor
I don't think that you can easily use a TPI (small cap style) distributor on a non computer car. Another down side is that it does not have a vacuum advance (if you required one).
Why do you want or need to have a smaller distributor. Are you having clearance problems with an aftermarket air cleaner or intake manifold?
Keep in mind that small diameter caps are more prone to cross arc between terminals inside the cap. Certainly this was one design consideration behind the large HEI (post 1974) distributor cap.

Actually I do have a TPI motor. In the near future I will be going with either a stealth ram or ramjet intake so I will have clearance problems. I was just curious if there were any problems I should be aware of. Thanks for the input.
