fan temp switch burning on header
fan temp switch burning on header
The connector for the fan temp switch/sending unit is broken and won't stay on the sending unit very well. Also it sticks out a little to far and the wire connector is burning on the header. I'm assuming that i could disconnect it and run the fans by a switch on the dash, but i'd like to avoide that if possible.
Is there a place that i can get a modified sending unit that is smaller?
Is there a way to hook the wire up vertically instead of horizontally pushed on?
If i do end up running power dierctly to the fans and using a dash switch, will i get a check engine light?
Thanks in advance to those who reply

SLP's header installation kit comes with a 90° threaded elbow to change the angle that the switch is installed in the head. It's a major pain in the *** to install, but prevents the problem you describe.
It's your basic everyday brass threaded elbow that you can find in any decent hardware store. Take the switch with you, or get a new one (JET fan switches come with a new connector
) and try out some elbows at the store til you find the one with the right threads.
SLP's kit also came with some fire sleeving for the switch, which was awful nice of them..
Don't run power directly to the fans using a switch. Instead, ground the fan relay(s) with your switch. That's "common thirdgen mistake #1" in my book and it's "plum annoying".

I purchased a new connector from G.M. Then I extended the wire all the way around the front of the engine and installed the sensor in the coolant temp switch hole on the left head. I have a open hole in the front of my intake where I removed the hot water plumbing for my throttle body. Installed the gauge sensor there. I hear that the throttle plates ice up if you remove the heat tubes to it. I figure one could only hope it does....
