On an 87 IROC, We recently played with some relays (may have broken some)

1) when you turn the key on, (but don't start it) should the eletric fan kick on? Or will it only come on after the car has been started / is hot. only one kicks on I believe.

I seem to remember this happening before, but I just can't remember if it's supposed to.


2) We got rid of the battery drain, but I was wondering, if the battery is at 13v, and you turn off the car, and turn it on (without starting it) what should the voltmeter read? It reads 9, then when I start it, it goes up to 13. My dad says it should do this, and that the starter will pull it down to 9v. but again, I seem to remember it differently (Or maybe i'm dillusional)

please help to clear up these questions so i can forget about them

 

1) I believe this is supposed to happen. On my RS, the first fan won't kick on till needed.

2) My RS drops to 11 when not running, but I've also got a parasitic drain.

 

So the fan shouldn't come on when you turn the key on?
