Fuel System

Hi all,

I have an '82 Trans-Am 305 CFI and one day after jump starting it with my other car all the electrics died. Everything now is working fine apart from the fuel system! The fuel pump does not prime anymore, so I assume thats why no fuel goes to the injector ports. We sprayed ez-start into the injector ports and the engine turns over and fires so I know the engine still works!
I have not had this thing very long and it is my first American car. I have checked all fuses etc but I just don't know enough about cars.
It turns over, does not fire, not priming, no fuel to injectors.

Any help would be great! Waited all my life for a KITT replica, got it, and this happens.

Thank you all so much!

Steve.

Welcome to the boards! Welcome to owning a american muscle car. It does sound like when you jumped the car you got a surge, but its funny everything is still working. There are only 3 things that I can think of:

#1 And Most likely you fried the fuel pump. That means you probably get to put a new one in. Look around and you can find some good deals on the pumps.

#2 Clogged injectors - not likely but could happen

#3 Clogged fuel filter - again I don't think this is the problem, but who knows.

Thanks so much for your reply.
How do I actually check the fuel pump? And for that matter get to it? I said that I checked all the fuses etc but are there any in-line fuses that I do not know about?
I could be grasping at straws, but I thought it was worth asking!

Thanks again,

Steve.

I'm not framiliar with CFI, but I'd start with the fuel pump relay.

dont start with the relay its a waste, they dont go bad as often as every one thinks, heres what you do: get a test light 5 buk at walmart hook it to the battery posative terminal and unplug a injector and touch the light to one of the terminals in the plug and crank trhe motor over. if it flashes good, if not try the other wire, and if still no flash its not the pump but more likely the ecm. so if it flashes go th the fuel pump test port under the hood and jump it to power that will tell if the pump works or if its bad.if the pummp runs then check the relays
hopefully this is enough for ya
