Remote Solenoid???

I have a 383 stroker and put a mini starter on the motor and I have onbly one summer worth of driving on it and the solenoid on the starter is already bad. it is drawing alot of juice when I try to start the car. I am not trying any heat shields or anything like that if I can hook up a remote solenoid. I called summit racing and the guy said you just hook up the remote solenoid to the solenoid on the starter but this really sounds wrong to me b/c I am still going to have a bed solenoid drawing to much juice I would think from the battery. has anyone hooked one of these up?? I assume I would cut the wires going from the starter to the solenoid mounted on the starter and hook these wires up to the new remote solenoid. if anyone would have a poc or diagram I would really appreciate it. why GM decide ever to mount the solenoid on the starter I will never know, I suppose they figure instead of seeling a solenoid they can make more money and sell a whole starter that way and make more money. oh well tell me what you think guys and remember, I am not dealing with heat shields, I want to eliminate this anooying problem all together.
