since it's an 84 unit it has a mechanical speedo, I would check the cable comming from the tranny, it's possible it either came out of the tranny or speedo or it broke (not un-heard of), you may also have a stripped gear set where the cable goes into the tranny.
try disconnecting the cable from the back of the speedo and driving the car while having someone watch the end of the cable and see if it is spinning, if so then it may be the speedo, if not then check the rest of the cable.

Well,i did like you told me and exactly, the cable is not spinning so i guess is not the speedo...also i tried to pull that innercable (slowly) and its comming off the cable so i guess is broke somewhere....so i guess i will have to get me another cable.Well i really thank you for your help man..take care
the inner cable will come out of the casing even if it's not broken, I would jack the car up and disconnect the cable from the tranny and try spinning it from that end while watching the other end and see if it's moving, if not then it's definetly the cable if it is then it may be the speedo gears in the tranny, don't worry, they're not hard to change or expensive for that fact.
