WTF is up with these headlights?!!!!!!

I have a 92 RS and the driver lo beam burnt out. Thinking it was no problem i got another light from wal mart. I hooked it up and now the hi beams work but the lo beam light comes on with them. it doesn't work with the lo beams on. Are both lights supposed to come on in bright mode? Also, why does one set of headlights come with a 2 prong female plug and the other set come with a three prong? Does anybody know the engineer who designed the wiring scheme for this car, cause i'm gonna shoot him!

Yes, the low beam lights come on with the high. The reason for different connectors for the lights is because the lights themselves are different and this keeps you from getting them mixed up.

yeah, i'm an idiot. i went outside today and got the wiring guide from a chilton and stared at the lights flicking them off and on for ten minutes. Then i got the idea, which you said just now. thanks for your help, i appreciate it. It's funny how dumb the problem (or the shadetree mechanic like me) usually is.
