Knock counts w/ a dummy sensor?

I've been using a dummy knock sensor because no matter where I set my base timing, the one in the block is picking up unheard of knock counts. I did a winaldl run and somehow managed to pick up knock counts even through the dummy sensor! Granted not near as many, but they were there. The dummy sensor is taped off as well.
Any ideas what could cause this or what could be causing my origional problem with the one in the block?
I swapped to the esc module and knock sensor recommended by gm for a zz3 w/ tbi swap-the closest I could get for the 383.
Also, I can't hear any pinging what so ever. But honestly, I don't like the idea of having to run a dummy sensor, especially when playing with the timing at the track. I also run a 160* stat (coolent doesn't see over 200* ever) and run the highest grade available here (92).

One other wierd note if anyone can comment on-I ran 104 unleaded at the track, and it actually slowed me down!?!?
Thank you in advance,
Roy

The higher the octane rating on fuel means it's a slower burn. More controlled if you want to call it that. Which ends up being great for cars that run high compression or high boost, but not so great for cars that have neither.

Knock frequency is more dependant on bore than stroke, so a sensor for a 350 should be fine.
