RPMs drop when i turn the fans on
I wired up my fans to a switch today and when i flip the switch the rpms drop down a little and then jump back up and sometimes the belts squeal for a few seconds. I have both fans running off one relay and have the switch grounding the green/white wire on the relay when it's on.
I can't see this putting a big strain on my alternator, my stereo uses a lot more power then the fans and it hardly makes the volt guage move when it hits hard.

when you turn on the fans it will use a TON more amps than any stereo, while they are speeding up, once they are spinning the current draw goes down and thats why the belt stops squealing and the rpms go back up. Wire them up separatly like I did and turn them on one at a time, Ive found that I just about never need both fans on anyway, one works fine.

Ok, I'll seperate the fans tomorrow, thanks. What kind of switches did you use? I bought a toggle switch from pep boys but really hate the way it looks. I would like a simple push button switch i can mount some where out of sight.

for the secondary fan I used the foglight switch, I just hooked it up so that it grounded the wire that went to the temp switch on the engine. for the other fan I used a switch that you would use for your house that I found in the basement. you can just use switches from the parts store or whatever if you use the grounding wire for the relay, just dont run the hot wire for the fan thru the parts store switches cause they will melt, make sure you use relays.

I'd like to mount some nice simple push button switches in the ash tray area if i could. But i need to find a place that sells something like that.
yeah since u are going to use a switch for each relay you can use two small type push button switches since u are just grounding out the relays. i would think the local radio snack would have what u need.
yeah i also find myself turning on my passengers side in traffic to keep cool, and i am thinking about putting another swithc onto my drivers side fan to make sure the temp will not move when i am at the track.
