no spark

My daughter has a 1992 Camaro. Bought used . I think the engine was pulled. I found ground wires at firewall that had been cut and put back together with wirenut. This fell off when I touched it. The car was running, although not great, my son stopped and put gas in it, drove about 1/2 mile and it quit. No spark. What I've read so far leads me to believe that it cauld be any number of things but I have no clue. It has TBI and the chip in key. Thank you for any and all help. P.S. what is involved in changing to carb as far as computer is involved.:hail:

Did you correctly reconnect the ground wires? The engine HAS to be grounded to the chassis or it won't run worth a crap. Also check your ignition coil and module, they tend to be the first to go. To change from computer to carb non-computer, simply remove all computer components and wires, replace intake and install carburator, and replace distributor with non-computer controlled version (73 camaro works).

be sure to use good connections and electrical tape with those wires. Also, be sure to clean the area the wires are grounded to real well. Take plenty of time to clean up those connections and make sure they're solid. I learned on my 91 RS that it pays off if you take your time.

If you have emissions in your state, you're gonna have to keep the TBI. If they check under the hood of the car and see a carburetor, you're gonna fail. The computer controls some of the emissions equipmnet. You might actually get it to pass the pipe test with just a carb, but as i said, if they see it, you fail.

O.K. we have power at coil. but still no spark. while looking at fuses found security system box flapping in the wind. it has a white wire with black stripe on the side that goes nowhere. on the side that has the plugs, we have a yellow wire on the left that is cut and a purple wire on the right that is cut. the box has G.M. on the side. are these wires needed? two fuses came along for the ride that are good. when one was pulled and replaced the alarm sounded. does the power go out of the coil into the dist.through the module and then to the coil to make a spark?
