No power to solenoid, help!:(
My car wont turn over, the starter is good, however the small, purple wire connected to the solonoid has no power. Where should I start looking?
reply ...no power to solenoid
follow the positive from the battery it goes to a distribution block, on my 91 firebird w/v6 the distribution block is located behind the passenger side head light on the inside wall beside the light. what this is is a block that is connected to the red cable of the battery and its connectd to a large terminal and from hear there are (on my car) 5 wires connected to the dist block terminal also 1 goes to solenoid 1 goes to a/c 1 goes to alternator 1 goes to firewall to fuse block and 1 returns to battery from alternator.try to find by tracing ,the wire to your solenoid from the dist block then use a meter and test for continuaty, if not wire should be replaced and use the same guage to replace its a high heat area to thin may melt, also try rechecking the ground. paul.

I don't have that distribution block, my positive battery cable just goes to the starter and alternator. Then on the solonoid there is a small purple wire that leads to the fuse block.

Axle/Gears: ones that turn.
Your neutral safety switch (in an auto) or the clutch safety switch (in a manual) could have pooched, or maybe just become disconnected. With an auto trans, the switch is on the side of the shifter; with a manual, it is attached to the clutch pedal arm.
For either of them, check to see that you have power to the heavy yellow wire while the key is turned to START.
If there is, then your ignition switch and the fusible link are good and the problem is in the safety switch or in the purple wire somewhere.
If not, turn the key to the RUN position and try the turn signals and heater fan. If those don't work, you've got a fried fusible link off the starter. If they do work, the ignition switch down on the column may be bad.
