Back-Up Lights - HELP!

Hi everyone, this is my first post and I need some help.

Heres my problem. I failed inspection for my back-up lights not working.
Heres what I checked:
1) Bulbs
2) Sockets
3) Tested green wire that runs from socket to the front of car
4) Tried bypassing wire connecor to back-up light switch(on tranny)

I cannot get this to work and I'm stupid when it comes to electric stuff. I also found some disconnected wire connectors that I believe may contribute to my problem.

1) Near the hatch motor, Theres a 3 wire connector that goes to "nowhere." It has 2 Red/White wires going to it and one black(ground). These are all around a 1.3mm guage.

2) Above the climate controls(when taking off dash). Theres a 2 wire connector that is, believe it or not, MASKING TAPED above the climate controls. The wire colors are Orange(2.6mm) and a Pink(1.3mm).

3) Under the stereo deck there is a 6 wire connector that also leads to "nowhere." Its labeled A, B, C, D, E, F and its colors are:
A- Black/White(1.3mm)
B- Orange/Black(1.3mm)
C- Dark Purple(1.3mm)
D- Green(1.3mm)
E- Light purple?Brown (can't tell)(2.6mm)
F- Dark Green (2.6mm)(1.3mm)

Heres a pic found, thanks to thirdgen.org, that kind of shows my #3 problem. http://i.b5z.net/i/u/741720/i/backup...onsole_ezr.JPG The connector on the bottom right of the picture is what I'm talking about. Best pic I can find that related to what I'm talking about. I need to get a digital Camera.

4) There are 4 wires coming from the drivers side dash all the way to the trunk. Looks Like 2 grounds(Black wires 2.6mm) and a Red(2.6mm) and Blue(1.3mm). These wires are poorly ran also. They are "cut-off" though. Looks to me like they ran to some sort of amp/sub/cd changer.

If anybody has any help or suggestions for me, please post them. It's a 92 Camaro Rs with a 5.0L V8 in it(305). Its also a 5spd. I'd greatly appreciate any input.

Ps:

I also tested the bulb-socket ground wires. This is not the problem.

looks like a auto to standard change over. get your self a wiring diagram, and cross refrence them. check the switch on the trans. use heat shrinks on the wires. good luck.

OK, I think I can help you out. Is your car auto or stick? If it's auto, that plug in #3 question needs to go to your neutral safety switch. That switch also indicates what other gears you are in, and will switch on your reverse lights.

Believe it or not, that masking taped plug is factory. On the manual cars, that plugs into a switch that will not allow you to pop the hatch unless your parking brake is pulled. It is basically there to keep you from opening the hatch while you are driving.

I believe that the plug in the rear of the car with the 2 red/whites goes directly into the hatch pull-down motor if your car has it, but I could be mistaken.

Let us know how it goes,
Matt

Yes, the car is a stick. and those wires I mentioned in #1 don't go anywhere. There is already wires that are going to the hatch and it works good. The wires i was talking about come off of those wires leading to the hatch motor. They are spliced into it sort of.

I think Ive figured out what was wrong with the backup lights. The damn chiltons manual had me thinking the speedo sensor was the backuplight switch. lol... Thanks for your help onebinky and kevin arnold for your help.

Well, this might be worth checking out.....

For some reason, on every one of my 3rd gen firebirds, the backup lights appear to be not working, however if you kinda held the shifter forward a little in the reverse gear the lights would light up

???
