how the heck do TAKE OUT SHIFT INDICATOR BULB??
how the heck do TAKE OUT SHIFT INDICATOR BULB??
seriously, this is not a joke.....i can not get this dang bulb out! i have a 91 firebird, the culprit is the bulb that lights the shift indicator (AT) when the headlights are on. yes, i have taken the console apart, acessed the light, i tryed to pull it, twist it, push it in and turn it, take apart as much of the wiring harness as possible, and i'm telling you, that bulb wont budge!
what is the secret to getting it out?

You are trying to turn it from the back side of the guage cluster right? It is held in a little plastic holder that goes into the cluster from the back, you turn it 1/4 of a turn and remove the holder and bulb, then pull the bulb from the holder.

Morley is absolutely correct.
When I tried to remove some of my bulbs for replacement, they were literally "frozen" to the circuit board. I had to ...very carefully...use needle nose pliers to make them turn.

no no, not talking about bulbs in dash, this is the single bulb that lights the auto tranny shift indicator in the CENTER CONSOLE. sorry if i was unclear. i've tried all the twisting i can think of.

Ohhhhhhhhh
Ummm...well mine just FELL out while I was taking the stupid thing apart...Why not just disconnect the wire?
Sorry I just realized the bulb was ALREADY not lit....
I believe it should still pull away quite easily.

I just had the console out on my 87 bird when I replaced the carpet. I had to replace that bulb. Mine just turned 1/4 turn counterclockwise and came right out. Maybe something got spilled in yours and made it sticky?? It should just turn out.
The bulb for that light fits VERY tightly in its holder. You probably got the holder out of the shifter plate and are wrestling with the bulb itself.
Take a pair of dikes (diagional wire cutters) and gently close them on the skinny part of the bulb down bu the holder and GENTLY rock back and forth while pulling up on the bulb, it should pop free.
