speedo question, yes i searched.

ok

so i found a 120 mile per hour electric speedo. i read in another post that as long as i already have an electric sending unit that it does not matter what i plug in couse it will work, however, i don't know if my 86 firebird v6 is an electric or not. the guy selling it says it is out of an 86, but what does he know.

any help would be apreciated. thanks

EDIT: is 35 bux to much to pay for one?

From: out of my mind; be back in 5 minutes....
Car: 1989 Firebird Formula
Engine: Internal Combustion
Transmission: Completed
Axle/Gears: ones that turn.
If it has gauges, it's electric; if it has the 'idiot lights', it's cable.
As for the price, I dunno...it's up to you...if you think it's worth it to upgrade.

The easy way to tell: Pull the cluster yourself. If you have to reach around back of the gauges to unhook the speedo cable, then that's obvious. I'm not sure as to which year the Firebird was switched over to the electric, be it 86 or 87, but my 87 V6 has the electric speedo.

look under the car at the sending unit on the transmission. If it has two wires it's electric. You don't need to pull the cluster.
