Well, now, this is different... HELP!
Okay, I went out yesterday and bought myself one of those "onboard" battery charger/maintainer units from Advance and hooked it up according to the instructions. I let it run all night to trickle charge the battery, and went out to start the car today. I unplugged the charger and let the car sit in the open garage for an hour to let the hydrogen gas created by the charging process dissipate. I go back and turn the key to start the engine, and everything dies like a fusible link blew or something. I check the links, they are fine. I think, "What gives???" So I go over and unhook the negative charger cable (I was supposed to attach this cable to a sturdy part of the frame that is NOT sheet metal due to the battery being negatively grounded so I attached it to the strut mount) and I hear the headlight motors engage like they would if I was reconnecting the battery. WTF? Next, I go in and check the lights, etc., to see if they work. I turn on the park lamps, and the right headlight pops up, the instrument cluster shows that the highbeams are on, and the headlight is NOT on, and one of my signals was out with a good bulb. I put the driver's headlight in (it was removed for access to tight spots) and turn the headlights on again, the driver's headlight is on brights, and the pass headlight is on normally. I switch the higbeam switch, hoping something would happen, but it doesn't, and then I turn the lights off. I turn on just the park lamps, and everything works like it is supposed to, except for the right turn signal indicator on the dash is illuminated.
I have absolutely no idea as to what is going on, but the only thing I am going to do now is start the engine after a little work (dist is aligned with the wrong TDC mark and is 180* off).
HELP!!
