does a coil help?

I been thinking of getting a new higher voltage coil to replace my stock coil. How much will this help or is it a waste of money? I have edelbrock 1 5/8 tpi headers, dyno-max 3 inch cat and 3 inch flowmaster cat back, moroso 8mm wires and oem stock gapped .035 plugs on a 305. Also have (not installed yet since I wanted a base time from exhaust) stage 2 chip from that tbichips.com, 1 inch tb spacer and injector spacers. Im also planning on doing the ultimate mods this spring and maybe 1.6 rocker arms. I cant put to much money into right now but my dads giving me a 383 as a house warming gift so I dont want to spend alot on the 305. Plus I want to get the prominator since I will have to keep the tbi after the 383 install due to im sure lack of money (I bought a house waiting for it to get it built) BTW I ran the best of 16.3 with only headers/ exhaust stock everything else @ 3660 pounds.

Its more of a blue (dont know the name) better pics in my www link. Would it better if I gapped the plugs at .045 rather than .035 after the coil install for a larger spark?

You can but you won't gain much. I got the MSD coil for my car just for the sake of completing my ignition tune up a few years ago. The stock ones are really ok but can suffer with age. I saw a little better throttle response, and a few mpg here and there but thats about it. I did it more for piece of mind than performance.
