radar detector question
If i cut the cig adapter end off my radar detector, strip the two wires inside, can i wire it two the actual wire of the cig lighter thing?
If you didnt get what i was saying there, the "socket" that you plug the adapter into, the actual cig lighter has two wires connected to it, a orange power wire and a black ground wire.
The radar detector has two wires, a red(im guessing hot) and a white(ground?), Can i clip the connectors off the orange/black wires where it connected to the cig lighter and connect them two the red/white wires and have it run my radar detector like that? I wanna hide the wire out of the way somewhere and i want to be able to close my ashtray lid and hide some switches and stuff.
Just wondering if thats ok?
thanks
joe

I dont see any reason why that wouldnt work. The only problem is that its not an ignition switched circuit so if you radar detector stayed on it would be drainging you battery.

yes you can hard wire it.
however, i would wire it to a ignition on source at the fuse box.
and put a inline fuse with it.... look inside the cig lighter plug.. most have a fuse in there... if yours does, then get a inline fuse holder and put a fuse of the same rating in there... i prefer the blade type fuse, but you can get whatever style you want..
id double check the polarity of the wires before i connected it too... the center "nipple" of the lighter socket is positive... outside is neg...
