Fan wiring question/problem
OK,
When I switched to SD from MAF I put in a new painless harness and removed the stock one. I lost my fan setup somehow. I spliced into the fan power wire and ran it through the firewall and it is connected to the fuse panel in an open slot. The fan runs all the time from start up to shut down. Thats what I wanted it to do. My question is this: When I start the car the wire underneath in the fuse panel sparks a little. It has burned the end of the wire connector. Also, the metal inside the panel where it connects is almost gone from the sparking. What am I missing here? Should I have wired it a different way? I am not good with electronics. Please help....I was wondering if I should just by a fan setup that makes the fan come on sooner than stock and shut off at a lower temp. That way I dont have to use the fuse panel.

You can't run the fans off the fuse panel, you will overheat the wiring and ign switch causing major problems. Use a relay and tie the contact side of the relay thru a fuse link to the battery or the hot wire from the battery at the starter. You can control the coil side of the relay from the ign switch if you want the fans on all the time. There are also fan switch kits available. Read ******* article on fan setups in the tech article section, it gives different setups for many applications. Running the fan all the time is a waste, but that's up to you.
