Dead Short
Dead Short
ok heres the skinny. i put my car away for the winter in the garage. and i took it out for a drive every so often, it was cool, great, awesome, yeah yeah yeah. and i was gonna take it to my girlfirends house, but i wanted to install a CD player first. so i quickly installed it. i start up the car and look Ut-Oh its only charging at 12 or so volts. so i freak out, disconnect the radio thinking thats what it was start up the car. still 12 volts. i remove radio fues, still 12 volts. i let the car chill till i get over the fact that i all the sudden have a dead short. i took my alternator for a bench test, only putting out 5 amps. so i think thats what it is. replace alternator, still 12 volts. continuity between cables with doors shut and everything off. test acc curcuit, and find continuity between pos and neg wires on the cig lighter. remove acc circuit. start up car, still 12 volts. this time i get outta the car and i get shocked when i touch the body. when i turn on the lights no more than usual power loss. so far i have left it at that. but here is the tricky thing...i installed white face gauge overlays over the winter in it. and it was all well and fine. but i notice after i have the voltage draw, that whenever i have the blinker in, the tach needle moves up and down in sync with it, sometimes as does the speedo. all the gauges read correct though. any help would be awesome. thanks for your time

Getting zapped by your car is just a buildup of static electricity not an electrical problem. Are you reading 12v at the gauge or the battery? Did you have 14 v when you first took it out?
