Is alternator worth fixing if 115 VAC fried it?

I pulled an idiot move recently and didn't disconnect my battery before I welded part of my SFCs in and fried my alternator. Is it fixable or am I better off just getting another one? I mean it's mechanically sound but if I can just replace something electrical inside it I will.

Thanks all.

You could probably just replace the regulator and the diode pack.

The regulator and diode package will run about $60-70 parts wise. You need to unsolder the stator from the diodes and open the unit assuming it's a CS 130. You can get a rebuild kit from www.alternatorparts.com Once you do one it's easy but depending on time and familiararity with soldering you may not want to do it.

Thanks guys. I've had good dealings with Alternator Parts before so I would use them again. I don't think I'd have a problem doing the work but for $139 the all new 140 AMP CS130 Iceberg alt is looking good. I'd just hate to throw away a good salvageable alternator if I didn't have to.

If that fried your alt., then you really have a problem somewhere, but it isn't from welding on your car.

Thanks for the input Don. But the only thing I've done to it recently was install the Alstons, and all of a sudden the alt craps out, so that led me to my decision. After doing the pull the cable while it's running trick, it told me the alt is dead. I'll be going thru the wiring soon though.
