power locks kill battery
I didnt think nothing of it until today i unlocked my car and tried to pop the hatch via the console button and nothing happened.
So i tried to turn the key and nothing, once again. then i remembered the night before i had walked away from the car and heard the car door lock...i thought nothing of it and i should have.
I think maybe my power locks got stuck on the lock mode.
My question to you is, whats the best way to "unstick" this situation once i get a new battery (mine has a warranty so i might as well exploit it).
Do the power locks have a fuse i can unplug until i have time to figure out the situation?
Does this happen often? Am i going to have to take off the door panel and clean connections to resolve this problem?...Will i have to buy new parts?
I know my locks were failing (or at least had issues) because it would take 2 or 3 times to get them to lock via the buttons.
Thanks for the help.

I believe the locks are on the courtesy fuse. Youll loose alot of other goodies if you have to remove it thou. As far as the lock draining the battery, it sounds like your gonna need a new switch. You may be able to switch over the one from the passenger side if your in a pinch for parts.

On the 82 camaro's, the power door locks are on the 20 AMP CTSY fuse and the 35 AMP PWR ACC Circuit Breaker. There is also a power lock relay in the left kick panel that grounds to the car frame. Check all three of these. The 20 AMP fuse controls power to the switches and the 35 AMP circuit breaker is for the power lock relay.

I dont know exactly what i am supposed to check for...see if the fuses are___? if the circuit breakers is___.
I mean what would cause the locks to keep 'locking'?
P.s. - is the door panel a pain to remove?

The ctsy fuse is probably good. I would first take a good look at the power door lock relay, this is what sends the signal to the door lock switches. In regards to removing the door panel, it is not hard to remove. Just remember to have the window all the way down before you try to remove it. Also take your time because there are numerous fasteners holding it to the door frame.

do i just pull the relay and clean the connections? and reinstall it? how do i tell if the relay is good? can i buy a new one at the parts store? how much should that cost if i need to replace it.
Sorry i ask so many questions, i just like to have a good idea of what to look for before i jump into something.
thanks

Just pull it and clean the connectors and the area where it grounds to the car frame. reconnect the connector and mount it to the frame and try it out. You can get a new one at most auto parts stores and should not be that expensive. Probably around $10 - $15.00 + tax.
