b&m wiring woes, will i melt anything ? trickster !!!!
ok so i wired up the relay for the b&m megashifter and i get nothing from the car, but i notice if i touch the green and purpe wires together while i turn the key it starts, so i figure that either the wiring for the shifter is wrong, or there is something wrong with the relay, buti found if i ran a regular 12v relay with the 2 wires which i assume go tothe starter motor ? and just haev a switched 12v going to the input on the replay it works fine and the car starts, but is it ok to leave the wires together after the car is on ? and while i am drving it or am i going to melt something
in case no one has any ideas what i am talking about they are the 2 10awg wires thatgo to the shifter, it isa 91

I take it that you are talking about the dark green/white wire that went to the park/neutral switch(pin "F") from the starter enable relay and the purple wire that goes to the starter solenoid. I'm not that familiar with the B&M wiring for their relay. If you can, how about scanning it and e-mailing it to me so I can look at it.

here is the pic of the b&m wiring thing, but it says that the wire should be yellow insted of green ??? and mine is just green not dark green with any stripes, but i was going to wire it through a regluar relay so it is on at alltimes when the car is on ... or if i am going for that, can i jsut solder the 2 wires together ? will it hurt anything ?

White, substitute yellow for green. For some reason, they changed wire colors. I had two connectors, one with yellow, one with green. This may help.

The reason that it says yellow is because it does not take into account the starter enable relay that is on the newer model cars that have VATS. Normally it would be yellow with a NON VATS car. I mentioned a green/white wire because it is that color on some years. On yours it would be a dark green wire going to pin "F" of the park/neutral switch.
On your car pin "A" will be black/white, pin "B" will be orange/black, pin "C" will be dark blue, pin "D" will be light green, pin "E" will be purple, & pin "F" will be dark green. Just take the wires on your neutral switch and wire them into the B&M shifter and you should be okay. I wouldn't just go soldering wires like that.

i dont think i am following you, i have the relay hooked up how the instructions fromb&m say to, but it is not working and i am getting a little frustrated with it

ok so i tore apart the stock wiring selector thing and figured out how everythingi works... so if i can right i should be able to do what i have drawn out below and just get rid of the relay all together and not have to worry about it...am i right with this ??

According to the drawing that you sent me, If you have the relay with the numbers on the bottom it will be wired like this.
color p/n sw to relay
b/w pin "A" term #5
o/b pin "B" term #9
ppl pin "E" term #12
grn pin "F" term #8
blu pin "C' to B&Msafety sw & backup switch.
lt grn pin "D" to backup sw.
relay term. #13 to B&M safety sw.
relay term. #14 to ground.
You will wind up cutting the connector off the original harness unless you have an adapter for this and I believe that there is one available.
Have you seen the pictures that Eats 5.0's has on his site for this?

Is it possible that you may have wired the two switches backwards? I didn't see any pin "A" or "B" marked on the drawing. Just a thought!!!!!!!!! Thread Starter

ok i have given up on the wiring from the b&m schematic.... and i have come up wiht a new plan of action
since both the green and purple, and the black and orange have to be switched on by the same switch, and there is only 1, i have decided to run a fused 12v+ through the switch itself, and splitting into 2 regular 12v relays, one for the purple and green wires and one for the orange and black wires
that is what i am trying now and hopefully it will work.
as for the reverse lights i just have to hook them up directly to the switch for that

White91formula have you completed your installation. I also installed a hammer shifter in a 90 iroc and came across your problem. I wired the purple and yellow wire to the bottom switch and the blue and green to the top switch. I left the other two wires hooked up to the old plug. The car would start fine. I turned of the car and went to restart againg and the car would not start. After going through everything twice I decided to run a wire directly from the purple wire on the starter solenoid to the purple wire on the shifter, the car fired wright up. Is their a fuse, or relay on the purple wire that I might have fried. If so were can I find it. This is my friends daily driver and I need to fix this as soon as possible.
Thank you
Thank you
