Adjusting RPM gauge?

Put in a 115mph gauge cluster and the RPM gauge is off for some reason. My old gauge showed 750 RPM at idle and this new oene shows 1000. So it is off by about 250.

Can I adjust this myself or do I need to take it to a professional? The other option I have is to put back my original RPM gauge into this new cluster. But if I am able to adjust it I would like to fix it.

I know that my old gauge is correct as when I hook up my data cable ot the ECM it shows idle at 750.

It's not to uncommon for the gauge needles to read off by X amount. Just lift the needle nearly off (pry it evenly from both sides), fire up the car, and tap the needle to the 'correct' rpm, verify by ECM or accurate tach device. Once 'true', gently press the needle back down.

I might give it a shot then. I am just worried I will end up breaking either the needle or the thin piece that moves the needle. Are they extremly fragile or not too bad?

Fairly sturdy if you grasp it by the round part of the needle. The only problem is when the tach's go bad, as you go higher in RPM the amount thay are off from "true" usually gets greater.

Okay sounds like worth having a shot, if worst comes to worst I still have my working one in my other cluster.

I'll have to check the RPM when I have the laptop connected to the car to see if it is fairly accurate in all rev ranges.

Thanks for the help!
