fuel pump cut off switch
has anyone ever wired up a switch(toogle) that i can mount in the ashtray. so that i can shut of my fuel pump and turn it on whenever i want. kind of for a safty purposes and theft. I was thinking something like the fan switch but maybe using the fuel pump relay but i dont want to mess it up so if you guys could come up with something or if you already have the anwser that would be awesome.

For safety you already have the oil pressure switch. For theft i would go with a starter disable instead of a fuel or ignition disable with ignition disable being second.

The oil pressure switch doesn't shut off the pump if pressure drops below the 4 psi set point. It is merely a backup to the fuel pump relay. If the relay fails, the oil switch powers the pump, assuming 4 psi pressure.
i would disable the starter.

how do you disable the starter?? Details if possible. Also, why wouldnt a fuel pump switch work?? There are too many people saying that it should work, but I want to know?
Also, how many amp switch will it be enough to dissable the starter and run it as well. And the fuel pump, how much amps for that too.??
I know I am asking a lot of questions, but I need to protect my 1 out of 500 pro/am. Thanks.

You dont need a really high amp relay to disable the starter. Just wire a relay into the ciruit coming from the ignition switch. Its not that the fuel relay disable wont work. Its just that theres easier ways to do it.

Do you need a relay or can you use a toggle switch. I have a 20amp switch with an inline fuseable link thing. Can I just splice the switch into one of the wires??
Also, there is a purple wire in the center console that can be spliced into to disable the car to start thinking that its in gear. Is this a better way to go??
If you guys have any schemattics on how to do thid I will appreciate it.
Thanks

Wiring the switch in the area of the park/neutral switch is a great idea. I think a 20 amp switch would be enuf for that circuit but you really should test the current draw on the circuit to be sure.

I got it figured out, I will wire two rocker switches, one for the tranny (purple wire) and the other for the fuel pump (tan w/ white wire) I thought of perfect place where to hide them both. The thief will never find it, even if he had hours to look for it. Heheheheh.
If I were to get a 30amp switches with a 20amp fuse would that hold up most of the car stuff. Cuz we are talking about 200wats of power for the 20amp fuse (roughly). Or do I need a bigger fuse. Whats your recomendation???
