Newb with Questions

Introduction:
I've been a member at LS1TECH.com since april 2003, am a member of STF (**** talkers finest, mostly about punking trolls) and about a month ago got a 92 RS with a V6 in it with 169xxx miles.

Question:
As I'm driving down the road, my check engine light comes on occasionally and if I floor it or put it in nuetral and turn it off then back on and back to drive....it turns off and wont come back on for a long while. What gives?

The best thing to do first would be to check and see what the code is. This way everyone can better diagnose your problem. You can take it to an auto parts store and get them to check it, or you can just use a paper clip or piece of wire.

You just put the piece of wire or paper clip in the ALDL connector (the rectangular device with about 12 pins in it to the right of the fuse block). Put the paper clip in top 2 upper right hand pins. Now turn the car to KOEO (key on, engine off). The SES (service engine soon) light should blink once, pause, then blink twice. This is code 12, which means it working. It will flash code 12 three times, and will then blink the codes (for example, if it blinks 4 times, pauses, then blinks 3 times, than it's code 43). Once you get the code(s), post what they are and I or someone else can tell you what it means.

Of course, a Haynes or Chilton manual will also tell you how to do this and will tell you what the codes mean, too.

Sounds like the good ol' 32 code, mine does the same thing and it is always the same 32 code, which is an egr code.

By your description it is most likely an EGR related code being generated.

also, if it comes on, and stays on, you can reset it by unplugging the battery for about 30-45 minutes, it usually resets the computer.
