Electrical Fiasco
'86 TA 305 TPI
1st I blew the 20amp fuse coming off of the battery, that powers the fuel pump.
Then I fix it.
Then I notice that when key is in "ON" position, that the radiator fan kicks in intermittently off and on, sort of like a short, it comes on for 2 to 60 seconds then shuts off for any random amount of time , then starts up again. I own car for long time, and Fan has never spun, just because key was on. The fan was wired to run always whenever engine was also running.
Then car run bad. Hard to idle, loss of brakes, code 44
off and on, Car wants to die if no gas pedal, but backfires if too much pedal. Performs halfway decent at cruising speeds, but wants to die when I let off of the gas. So I ride the brakes, and pedal down together, when I am slowing up.
Then my battery died
Then dome light in car quit.
Then dash lights only worked if car was running.
Then I got Alternator form junkyard, which lasted 10 days
Then I ugraded battery to a Duralast Gold (higher cranking amps)
Then junkyard Alt went bad.
Then new, upgraded battery completely drained dead during the night, on the first night I bought it. It still had alot of juice when I went to bed, then 8 hours later, not even my Viper alarm work.
Now I buy Duralast 108 Amp Alt at Autozone $104.

Friend said synptoms indicate faulty MAF.
unplugged MAF, engine ran same, exept for when went to back up into parking spot.
I was getting code 44, prior to disconnect MAF.
Now I don't get Code 44, but instead I get codes 14,15,21,22,23,24,25,33,34,36,42 and 51.

I get this clicking niose, whem the key is in the "on" position, when my radiator fan turnes on. I tried unplugging the fan moter relay, which obliously stoppped the fan, but I still get this intermittent clicking noise.
I have trouble even retriving the trouble codes, because every time I hear this clicking niose, it interupts the flashing of the codes, and starts all over agian, with 12.
I thought it might be the fan switch, but
I can't find it. Is it visible from above moter, or do you have to be under car, looking up? I hear it is above starter, do that mean it is around spark plugs? Or is it in front of motor? What the hell does the fan swictch look like any how?
