Dash cluster
I have a 83 camaro with the 2.8L 2BBl engine (not for long) and I have the regular dummy light cluster, can I just plug in a cluster from a 85 camaro and have it work? or does the wiring have to be present for it to work, I have the sensors out of the car that the cluster came from.
I'm getting ready to swap engines and I don't want to fry my wiring.

The cluster lighting should be the same connections. The fuel guage should work. The temperature guage should work so long as you install a sender for a guage ins place of the switch for a light. The CHOKE light may not work, and may require some repinning. The ALT/GEN idiot light should work the same. I can't find much about the seat belt warning, so I'm not sure on that one. The SES lamps should be on the same pins.

Thank you, maybe I'll have the car running the first week of june.
I'm going to take alot of pictures of the swap and everything involved if anybody wants to post an article about it.

Everything worked fine in my 83 when I swapped the cluster from my 84Z into it.

For that year everything will work when swapped. Did that once. The oil pressure sending unit and temp sending unit will have to be changed on the engine of course cause they are different for idiot lights and gauges. No other changes needed.

Which wire did you use for the tach?
I can't find a white wire in my bulkhead connector.
Will everything still work fine if I gut the computer?
Are the bulkhead connectors between the cars the same, and can I just unplug the one from the 85 z28, and plug it into the 83 v6?
I hate asking alot of questions but I don't want to torch my wiring.
