where is the VATS located?
need to find mine so i can check the ground to it... apparently it's linked to the same ground i'm having problems with and i don't know where the problem is coming from. this would be for my '91 Z... thanks.

The ground for it is a black/white wire coming off pin "B1" of the VATS control module which is located on the drivers side under the dash on the firewall near the defroster vents. The ground goes to the right cylinder head for the VIN "E" cars and the left cylinder head for the other cars.

thanks again, trickster. lemme ask you this: back to my troubleshooting for this troublesome hot ground, i have disconnected the main connector at the firewall. i have pinned the ground wire to the shifter and am reading continuity between it (as a ground) and the heavy purple (ignition) wire on the ENGINE side of that connector. that can't be right, i know, but my question is, is it possible for that purple wire to be supplying a ground to the fuse block since it is picking up a ground apparently from somewhere? if i check that same pin on the shifter to the back side of the fuse block, i am getting all kinds of continuity across several circuits. i just don't see how it can do it with that main connector split. i don't know how the purple wire is picking up a ground, either, but am going back to work shortly on it to try and find out.

of course it can't... cuz i disconnected the entire starter harness and although the continuity may have gone away for that one particular wire, the fuse block is still getting a ground on damn near the whole thing. i have disconnected every connector i can see and it's still there. it is not one particular bank of circuits - it's the whole thing. and not saying it can't happen, but during this entire rebuild i did, i didn't touch a thing inside the car, but that seems to be where the problem is... and i'm running out of ideas...
