hatch pulldown

Yeah, my 88 GTA has a new hatch pulldown motor and tracks but the pulldown still won't work. I was wandering if it was the part in the lid. I sanded the contacts and that didn't help. Please help

There is nothing in the lid that would prevent it from going down all it is a hook, make sure all connections are working and hooked up properly, the hatch may already be locked, you might need to release the lock.

On your car the contact pad and spring-loaded contact pins on the hatch provide power the HMSL (high mount stop light, aka third brake light) when the hatch closes. It has nothing to do with the hatch pull-down unit. Earlier models used that same contact pad to power the rear hatch wiper motor. Did you check for power at the red/white stripe wire that connects to the blue wire? The topic has been covered in depth previously. Do a search and you'll likely find the answer to solving the problem.
