Hatch Problems
Hello,
I did a search on the subject and tried some things I found in other posts but I still couldnt get it to work.
Ok, here is how it started. I left my keys in the car overnight 2 nights ago. (Low crime rate inmy ara, lol). It ran the battery down. And since my hood struts dont work I needed the board out of the trunk to hold my hood up, so I use my key and open the hatch (the motor dosent come up of course since the battery is dead) and get the board, and I close the hatch again. I charge the battery and turn the car on, shut the hood and go to put my board back in the trunk. I lift up on the hatch and it pulls up about and Inch before it hits the latch, so I use my key again and open the hatch and putthe board in. And the hatch motor still dosent push the latch up! So I shut it again and go inside for the night. I come back this morning to find my battery dead again. It seems that the hatch motor makes a "whine" but dosent actually move, and that "whine" is draining my battery. It does it every 2 to 5 mins. I took apart the panel and looked at the hatch pull down unit itself, it seems tht the pull down motor is extremely hot. and if someone hits the switch it "pops" to release the hatch, and then there is the "whine" trying th raise the latch but nothing ever happens. My hatch is stuck in the down position, and its draining my battery. I would disconnect it, but when I close my hatch, it dosent make a complete seal (you can pick up on it about 1 in.). What I would like is for the latch to pull down on the hatch all the way so I can remove the fuse and kep it from draining my battey. Can someone out there help me and figure out whatthe problem is?
thanks,

I think I may be onto something. the pulls down motor itself is blistering hot. So I disconnected the power wire going to it to let it cool down. I'm thinking the unit maybe jammed? Does this sound right? and if it is, how do I fix it?

If it is blistering hot, then the motor is energized, but stalled out. If you slammed the hatch shut it may have broken something since they are designed to have the hatch gently closed. Take a look at the Tech Article I wrote. If you follow the instructions and disassemblt the hatch pull-down unit I'm sure you'll see what is wrong. I have all the parts you'll need to repair it. Oh, just to let you know, you'll burn up the motor very quickly if you leave it plugged and stalled out as it currently is.
