85 mph speedo and a 145mph speedo?

I removed a 86 mph speedo from a car in the local salvage yard and was going to compare it with the 145mph speedo in my 86 ta but before I go through the trouble of getting my unit out of the dash I thought of posting the pics of the 85 unit. If for some reason I cant use it and the cluster on my car I will let it go dirt cheep, as I have nothing invested in it.

145 mph speedo/ my speedo works when it wants to. I have replaced the VSS and checked all wiring between the speedo and transmission. could it be a bad guage if so could any components from the 85 unit work in the 145 unit?
