power door lock grommets

My power locks wont lock the doors. The solenoids work fine, but the linkage in the door is so "loose" ie: the rod coming from the manual lock button to the door latch assembly. The problem is where the rod comes up from the solenoid, the slot in the bellcrank assy is way to wide for the rod to be engaged on both sides of the lock/unlock function. Is there supposed to be a grommet here or something? I checked GM parts direct and Vandevere with no luck. Short of a grommet, etc that goes in there, my solution is to lengthen the rod from the solenoid so it has a longer range of motion. Thanks for the help guys.

There isn't a grommet so to speak, there is a little spring clip made out of plastic that serves to lock the linkage in place. You can find them on the HELP isle at most auto parts stores.

If you can't find them, you can solve the problem by putting a zip-tie around the junction. It tightens the joint restoring the function of the rod.

I know it works. I used it on a friends door several years ago. I can't attest for the longevity of the repair though. Of course the best option would be to replace the plastic clips. I discovered that using the zip tie at an angle over the joint worked too.
