Ignition On/Start Posistion, Little wiring help?

'83 CFI ... Installing a car alarm, I got everything hooked up just about... I am trying to figure out which wire it is I need to tap into for the Ignition On/Start posistion... Many of my alarms functions will not work without it. Before you say take it to a pro I am on a budget and I'd rather be at fault for mistakes then someone else.

I have a chiltons wiring diagram and of course there is one you can access here on the net.

Look through this if it helps or any pros with knowledge would be awesome. Simple tap I am sure, but I want to hit the right wire the first time. My multimeter burnt out on me awhile back btw and I don't feel like driving to get another at this time haha.

Yes I did a search, I don't have 2 hours to browse through all the returns hah. Went through a few pages didn't find much.

Professional installer here.

The ignition wire on GM cars is pink, in the harness coming from the steering column.

But tapping into wires based on a chart, or other people's assertions, is crazy. A good installer ALWAYS tests the wires he's connecting to!

Multimeters can be had for as little as $10, sometimes less. But if that's too much, go to the junkyard.........

Pull the side-marker light out of any old car, take the bulb, connector, and as much of the wire as you can, and you have a free test light.

You can make further improvements by adding an alligator clip to one wire, then connect the other wire to a small screwdriver, and grind the screwdriver's tip to a sharp point.
